Konkana Sen Sharma was born on the 3rd of December 1979. She is an Indian actress, writer, and director and is the daughter of veteran filmmaker-actress Aparna Sen. She primarily appears in Indian arthouse and independent films and her achievements in these genres have established her as one of the leading actresses of contemporary parallel cinema. She debuted as a child in the film Indira (1983), and as an adult in the Bengali thriller Ek Je Aachhe Kanya (2000). She received the National Film Award for Best Actress and gained a lot of attention for her performance in the English-language film Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002). Page 3 (2005) has gotten her wider recognition among audiences and since then, has starred in a number of films such as Omkara (2006) for which she won two consecutive Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards, and Life in a... Metro (2007) won her a second National Award under the Best Supporting Actress category. She is the first recipient of the Best Actress Award at the Filmfare Awards East for her work in the Bengali film Goynar Baksho (2014).
