Vembu depicts the life of a young women ‘Vembu’ in a village. Vembu lives with her father, mother and grand mother in a beautiful village. Her father, Vellaiyan raised her to be a bold and brave girl. She learns ‘Silambam’ since her childhood. After completing her college, Vembu is preparing for Government job exams. Also, she has a desire to achieve in Silambam and she practices hardly for the same. Her father is supportive of her dream in Silambam. In the same village lives Vetri, Vembu’s cousin. Vetri runs a small photo studio. Vembu and Vetri are close to each other and spend time together. The village panchayat leader passing by the Silambam school witnesses few youngsters teasing Vembu. The boys run away after seeing the panchayat leader. The later come to know that Vembu is the daughter of ‘Vellaiyan’ who works for him. He advices Vellaiyan to get his daughter married immediately. Confused Vellaiyan decides to get Vembu married to his nephew ‘Vetri’. He convinces Vembu for the wedding and she agrees to it in a dilemma. Vembu & Vetri are engaged and Vembu in a confusion, decides to leave the house at midnight. Thinking of her parents, Vembu returns home and agrees the wedding. Wedding happens in a simple manner.Vetri notices that Vembu is upset and takes her outside. He promises that he will standby her on any of her decisions. Vembu feels elated and the couple returns home happily. While on their way, they meet with an accident and Vetri loses his vision. Vembu takes care of Vetri and their home. As Vetri is unable to work, their family starts struggling financially. Vembu decides to work to take care of her family and Vetri’s medical expenses.The remaining story revolves around Vembu’s struggles to overcome all the odds.
