Thalai Magan (1983)

This family-oriented crime drama revolves around the struggles of a family that is torn apart by circumstance. Rajasekhar is a well-educated and wealthy man, whose life is destroyed by gambling. His son is kidnapped by a notorious smuggler, Jambu and Rajasekhar is sentenced to life imprisonment after killing his pawnbroker. His pregnant wife is left all alone to suffer. During his jail term, Rajasekhar meets Sundaram, a smuggler serving a death sentence. In exchange for protecting his daughter, Sundaram reveals to Rajasekhar the location of a vast amount of gold biscuits and Rajasekhar, who is set free on good behaviour becomes a wealthy man once more. Rajasekhar's second son, Sekhar is brought up by his wife, who works hard and makes many sacrifice is to help educate him. In an attempt to reduce the burden, Sekhar accepts an offer to perform at a nightclub. He tries his best to make his mother happy, but holds deep resentment and hatred towards his father for destroying their family. Rajasekhar's first son, Raja who was kidnapped by the smuggler, Jambu is brought up to be a jewel thief, smuggler and expert in all criminal activities. Jambu forces Raja to keep committing ever-more dangerous crimes by telling him that he would reveal the true identity of Raja's parents to him someday. Will Raja ever find out about his family? Will fate create circumstances that will reunite this battered and fragmented family?
