In one particular scene, Ranveer was required to exhibit pain, for which the actor went a step ahead and actually hurt himself to emote the sequence in the best possible manner. Ranveer kept piercing himself repeatedly with a safety pin for this shot.

Sonakshi Sinha has draped nine different sarees in the number "Sanwaar Loon". With each saree costing between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 35,000, the total cost of her nine sarees is said to be about Rs. 3 Lakhs ($6000).

When Ranveer Singh read the film's script for the very first time, he wasn't sure if he could pull off the part. In fact, he even turned down the offer right away. It was on the director's insistence that Ranveer agreed to have another session of script reading. And as soon as Motwane was done telling the film's story to him, Ranveer was greatly impressed by it and found himself confident enough to get into the skin of the character.

Originally, the film's premise was set in the present time, and not in the 1950s. But during the story's developing stages, Motwane realized that the film would not leave the kind of impact on his audience in the modern setting as he intended. Immediately, changes were done in the script in order to make it more engaging. That's how the film turned into a period romance.

To match with the old world theme of the film, the film launch was held at the Liberty Cinema in Mumbai, which was constructed in 1947.

Both the actors attended workshops in order to perfect the character, body language, speech of the role they played, as the film was set in Bengal in the era of 1950s.

Ranveer's look in the movie is an amalgamation of James Dean and Dev Anand.

Lootera is a period romance drama, made in the Hindi language in 2013, and set in the era of the 1950s, when the zamindari system was seeing its last days. The movie is partly based on author O. Henry's book 'The Last Leaf'.
