Trivia:
The movie had it's premiere at the 76th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Golden Lion award.

Warner Bros. had considered casting Leonardo Di Caprio for the role but Joaquin Phoenix was the top choice for Todd Phillips.

The writing process for Joker took about a whole year for Phillips and Silver

Joaquin Phoenix lost a lot of weight for his role as the Joker and he was serious about filming that there was no opportunity for reshoots.

The line 'When I was a little boy and told people I was going to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me. Well no one's laughing now' is inspired by the late British comedian Bob Monkhouse's statement which was "People used to laugh at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well they're not laughing now."

The filmmakers used the fake working title 'Romeo' while filming to keep the film's production a secret.

Robert De Niro's role as Murray Franklin, the talk-show host who gives Arthur Fleck/The Joker his big break, is an ironic role reversal to when De Niro played the character of Rupert Pupkin, a mentally unstable comedian who stalked a popular talk show host Jerry Langford in the 1982 movie 'The King of Comedy'.

Director Todd Philips was nominated in the 'Best Director' category for the 77th Golden Globe Awards 2020.
