Gwen lives on a farm in the hills of Snowdonia in 19th century rural Wales with her mother Elen and her little sister Mari. After her father leaves for fighting at war, Gwen and her family must learn to maintain a punishing work schedule to keep the farm going. They are plagued by ominous occurrences after another, and targeted by a town that begins to suspect their behavior.
