Trivia:
This film is loosely based on Alex Flinn's 2007 novel of the same name.

Alex Pettyfer completely shaved his head for his role and underwent 5 hours of prosthetics makeup each work day. Pettyfer remained in character (and makeup) off-set during the shoot as an experimental exercise to see how "outsiders" would react when, for instance , he would purchase miscellaneous items in regular stores in the Montréal neighborhoods.

This film marked Mary-Kate Olsen's last acting role before retiring from acting.

When the "Beauty and the Beast" fairytale s retold, the main female character (the "beauty" of the title) often (though not always) has a name that actually means "beauty" or some variation thereof. For instance, in both the 1946 Jean Cocteau version and the 1991 animated Disney musical, that character's first name is "Belle," the French word for "beautiful." In this version, the main female character's first name is "Lindy," a variation on the name "Linda," which is also the Spanish and Portuguese word for "pretty."
