Trivia:
The film is inspired by the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha, who is noted for her erotic roles.

Vidya Balan gained 12 kilograms for the role in the movie.

Vidya Balan began smoking cigarettes regularly to get into character, since Silk Smitha was known to be a heavy smoker. She smoked almost a pack and a half a day. Sometimes before filming scenes she would smoke up to ten cigarettes consecutively, to get ready to get into character on set. She quit after shooting the film however.

Kangana Ranaut was offered the lead role but turned it down because she was tired of playing 'the girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown', after playing similar roles in Gangster (2006) and Fashion (2008).
