Where did you watch this movie?

True-crime writer Ellison Oswalt moves himself and his family into a house where a horrific crime took place earlier, but his family doesn't know. He is trying to find out more about the crime so he can write a new book about it to help his flailing career. He uses some "snuff" film footage he finds in the house to help in his research, but he soon finds more than he bargained for. There is a figure in each of the films, but who or what is it? As a result, his family start to suffer (as does he), and things take a turn for the worse. Will they survive?

Once you see him, nothing can save you
Be the first to see the year's most terrifying film
Filmed at The Kuvykin Mansion. also filmed in the Kuvykin Mansion Good Shepard
Character Error
The Deputy clearly states the street address of the Ramirez family as being on Dillington Street, but the author writes Billington on his notepad.

When Ellison first watches the film of the family playing in the back yard, some of the clips are missing the wooden steps nailed to the opposite side of the tree.

When printing out the picture of the symbol the computer says "printing 2 items" when it was only told to print one. Also, when the printer prints the picture, only one paper comes out.

Near the beginning of the film, we see Ashley painting a girl in red on the wall. We see that Ashley has painted the girl fully in red, however, in the next shot we see that the girl has a white space where the red paint was before.

Ellison finds a scorpion in the attic of the house when he first ventures up there. We find out later that the house is in Pennsylvania. Scorpions, mostly found in subtropical climates, are not native to Pennsylvania. When Ellison mentions it to the deputy, he reacts as if it was a normal occurrence, rather than pointing out that it would have had to have been planted there.

Revealing Mistakes
One of the last scenes, Ellison retrieves firewood from outdoors, where it is raining. He then proceeds to make a perfect, non-smokey fire. This is impossible given the humidity that would have seeped into the wood.
Writer C. Robert Cargill got the idea for the script from a nightmare he had after watching The Ring (2002).

Ethan Hawke plays a writer, which he is in real life, having written two novels: "The Hottest State" (1996) and "Ash Wednesday" (2002).

The snake that is seen in the movie is a King snake. You can identify him as the non-poisonous snake by doing the rhyme, "Red on yellow, dangerous fellow. Red on black, friend of Jack."

Screenwriter C. Robert Cargill admitted that the name of Ethan Hawkes' character, Ellison Oswalt, was inspired by author Harlan Ellison and comedian Patton Oswalt.
