Sarika Thakur is an Indian actress born in a family of Marathi and Rajput descent. She started her film career as a child actress at the age of 4, playing the role of a boy in the 1960's Bollywood movie and she had also appeared in many children movies at her early stages in film career. Later she moved on to films with Rajshri Production's "Geet Gaata Chal" with Sachin, with whom she gave several hits together in both Hindi and Marathi films. In her acting career, she was often cast as a "Westernized Girl" in films due to look her Non-Indian looks. She has acted in many classic Indian films such as Kranti (1981). During the peak of her film career Sarika got married to Kamal Haasan after which she gave up on her acting career and moved to Chennai with him. She has two daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara. In the year 2000, she won the National Film Award for "Best Costume Design" for the film Hey Ram. Her performance in Parzania in which she plays the role of a Zoroastrian woman, fetched her the "National Film Award for Best Actress". Sarika has made her television debut in Sony TV's "Yudh" starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.

She gave up acting when she married Kamal Haasan during the peak of her career in the late 1980s.

Was often cast as the vamp or 'westernized' girl in films from 1980's Bollywood, however she was very unhappy with this 'bad girl' type casting.
