Indian film actor, producer and politician Ramanathan Sarathkumar is the former president of he South Indian Film Artistes' Association and former 'Mr. Madras' who is known for his works in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada films. In 1986, Sarathkumar started his acting career in the Telugu film 'Samajamlo Sthree' after which established himself as a lead actor in the subsequent years earning him the title Supreme Star in Tamil cinema. He is the leader of the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) party in India. He served as the president of the Nadigar Sangam from 2006 to 2015 for three consecutive terms.
Born as the youngest in the family, Sarathkumar started his schooling at the Raja Muthiah High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from The New College. Sarathkumar made his acting debut, in 1986, in the Telugu film Samajamlo Sthree at the behest of a producer friend and got an opportunity to act as well as produce in the Tamil film Kan Simittum Neram. He has acted in several film as a negative character after which he made his first venture as hero in Palaivana Paravaigal under Senthilnathan's direction. Sarathkumar has covered varied characters from villainous roles to rural roles and action roles. Sarathkumar has been married twice, first married to Chaya in 1984 with whom he has two daughters - Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Pooja, after their separation he was married to actress Raadhika Sarathkumar with whom he has a son Rahul. His elder daughter, Varalaxmi, works in the South Indian cinema industry as actress.
