Conspiracy theory has it that Stanley Kubrick was employed by the CIA to fake the Apollo 11 moon landings. A CIA agent searching for Kubrick in Swinging London, and ending up with a hapless band manager masterminding the footage America needs in case the real-life space odyssey goes awry.
The general who briefs Kidman is made up to look like General Jack D. Ripper from Dr. Strangelove to fit in with the movie's Kubrick motif.
The coffee table in Derek Kaye's office is reminiscent of the tables in the Korova milk bar in "A Clockwork Orange."

Kidman beats up the motorcycle gang to the same music that Alex and his droogs beat up the rival gang in "A Clockwork Orange", as the style in which the fight proceeds is quite similar to the fight in "A Clockwork Orange" as well. Also one of the gang members in "Moonwalkers" and one of the gang members in "A Clockwork Orange" (Billyboy) are quite alike.
The naked lady painting on the side of the building is a reference to the naked lady painting from "A clockwork orange."
