Embedded with quirky comedy and youthful romance, this masterfully crafted drama Madhavan, who calls himself M.A.Dhavan (Sreenivasan) in a case of vanity mixed in with arrogance and pride. This is primarily due to the fact that he is back in Kerala after spending a few years getting his MBA in USA, which he feels is an extraordinary accomplishment.. His honest but underachieving schoolmate, Shambhu (Mohanlal) is now working as a driver at his house, whom the now vain and snobbish Madhavan treats with disdain. Madhavan's parents want him to get married to Shobha (Lizy), daughter of Sardar Krishna Kurup (Jagathy Sreekumar), a rich and aristocratic businessman. Madhavan, who wants to observe his fiancée from a distance, decides to go to her house dressed as a driver and makes his driver Shambhu act as himself. In a serendipitous twist of fate, Shobha and her family mistake Shambhu to be the prospective groom, to the extent that Shobha slowly finds herself falling in love with him. How will Shobha's family, Madhavan and his family react when they find out that Shobha is adamant about marrying Shambu? Will Madhavan realise the error of his ways and bless their union?

The approximate distance from Washington, D.C. to Miami Beach is 1,704 km (1,059 miles) through the Interstate 95 highway (In reference to a popular dialogue from this movie, that starts with the question How many kilometers from Washington D.C. to Miami Beach?). Ironically, the metric system is not of common use in day to day life in the United States.

Mammooty appears in a guest appearance for just one scene in the climax.

The story of this film was by Jagadhish. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Sreenivasan.

The performance of Sreenivasan as MA Dhavan is considered as his best in his career.

Upon release, this film was a huge hit at box office. Without a strong plot or any emotional scenes as it is a senseless comedy flick. It is usually categorized as one of the best comedy films to have ever happened in Malayalam cinema. The repeated telecasts on TV channels has made it a cult film.
