Trivia:
Yash Chopra was advised to change the ending whereby Pooja convinces Viren to stop sleeping with her mother's ghost (in a manner of speaking). But the director insisted that if he had changed the ending it wouldn't have been the film he set out to make.

Sanjay Dutt was the original choice for Deepak Malhotra's role.

"Lamhe" was dubbed in English and was released under the name "Indian summer" to the overseas audience.

Sridevi also did a double role of mother and daughter in "Khuda Gawah" (1993).

Yash Chopra originally wanted to cast a newcomer in the role of Viren. As he didn't want any actor to feel uncomfortable while doing the role.

This film is Yash Chopra's favorite film.

In the parody sequence where Prem and Pooja try to cheer up the sulking Viren, Dai Maa joins in with "Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai". This was Waheeda Rehman's hit song from one of her best films - Guide (1965). Later, she thought it was rather unusual to be dancing to her own song from another film and considered it to be her ultimate tribute.

This film, released on the same day as Phool Aur Kaante (1991), was expected to break records. Unfortunately, the relationship between Prem and Pallavi/Pooja was considered incestuous by purists and the moralists, and it was completely rejected by the Indian audience. Its failure demoralized Yash Chopra and to this day he laments its rejection by the Indian audience. However, it was not a total loss; it became one of the biggest hits ever in the Indian overseas market.
