The name Wayanad derives from Vayal Nadu, or Land of Paddy Fields. Over half the total land is used for agriculture. The majority of agricultural laborors in Wayanad are from the tribal communities. The conversion of paddy fields to cash crops in the region has reduced employment for some tribes. One of the most vulnerable tribal communities in Wayanad are the Paniyas. This is there story.
