Samantha's life is going downhill fast. The fifteen-year-old has a crush on the most popular boy in school, and the geekiest boy in school has a crush on her. Her sister's getting married, and with all the excitement the rest of her family forgets her birthday! Add all this to a pair of horrendously embarrassing grandparents, a foreign exchange student named Long Duc Dong, and we have the makings of a hilarious journey into young womanhood.

Goofs:
Continuity

Continuity
When Caroline and Jake are slow dancing at the school dance, Caroline's hair changes between shots.

Continuity
When Jake Ryan goes to Sam's house looking for her, and Long Duk Dong answers the door, the hot water bottle Long is holding moves from the top of his head to the side of his neck, and back.

Sam puts a can of Diet Coke on her lunch food tray in the school cafeteria, but when she enters the lunch room with her friend, she clearly has a regular can of Coke on her food tray.
Trivia:
Molly Ringwald almost lost the part of Samantha to Ally Sheedy, her future 'The Breakfast Club' co-star.

When Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall first met, they did not get along at all. Director John Hughes took them shopping at a music store and they discovered they had similar musical tastes and eventually got along.

Both Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were 16 years old upon release of Sixteen Candles.
