Shekhar falls in love with the priests daughter Lakshmi who married at a young age and lost her husband. Lakshmi dons the role of a widow and abstains from any relationships. Shekhar's mother forbids his relationship and arranges for him to marry a woman named Kamla, and they have a daughter named Raji. Kamla unexpectedly passes away from cancer, and when Shekhar burns her corpse, Raji starts to develop a fear towards her dad assuming he night burn her one day. Raji visualizes her mother as a flower and mistakes Lakshmi as her mother figure. Lakshmi who isn't allowed to be involved in any personal relationships develops a bond with this child.
