Viewing a kannada movie in Chennai after more than a decade and a half and "RANGITARANGA" makes the viewing a fabulous experience.I have not watched too many Kannada films nor am I am too fluent with the language..but films like "Amruthavarshini" and "Nammaoora mandhaara Hoove" and "A" form a part of irreversible college memories in Bijapur with my friends and extended family.
Rangitaranga is a psychological mystery thriller with horror and thrills woven into it and there are enough jump out of your seat moments with the effective use of Background music and distinctive camera angles. The technical aspects of the movie cut across like a bolt of lightning. The cinematography(Lance Kaplan & William David) and the music(Anup Bhandari) are the strongest elements in this movie. The locations are stunning and the haunted house in the hills in Mangalore is eerie.I am not discussing the story here as that is another strength here( Lack of logic in a few scenes can be brushed aside). The performances are fabulous.Hero Nirup Bhandari is easy on the eyes and acquits himself creditably. He looks a tad lame in the flashback scenes and better with the stubble. The heroines here are not mere eye candies and have strong characters to portray.Radhika Chetan with her lovely dimples and natural acting instincts is likable. So is the more confident and stylish Avanthika Shetty who underplays her part well.Special mention of the bespectacled guy and his wife who play Avanthika's friends. However in terms of acting, this is SaiKumar's show all the way. Towering above the rest of the talented cast, his pitch perfect dialogue delivery and undisputed ly most challenging performance to date is sure to make him a favourite at the award ceremonies.
Loved the colour schemes used in the film..From haunting tans to blazing reds, flaming oranges to lively blues and pasture plush greens, the film stands true like a work of art.Note the vibrant play of colours in a mehendi song featuring Radhika Chetan and her friends or the Yakshagana like rituals that paint the screen in myriad hues.Director Anup Bhandari , take a bow..You have excelled to give us an experience to savour and cherish.AWE INSPIRING.
