Kalyan is the spoiled, alcoholic son of Lakshmi, an exceptionally wealthy landowner, who despairs at the thought of Kalyan's irresponsible, indulgent lifestyle.
Kalyan invites Ramu and Prema, a beautiful young woman to a party for which they end up travelling together by train. Kalyan desires Prema, and attempts to misbehave with her, but Lakshmi protects her and sends her back home.
Sparks fly between Ramu and Prema, and what starts off as arguments and ego battles, soon blossoms into love. When Ramu finally comes into contact with Lakshmi, she explains his history to him.
Anand Varma is a man of great integrity, who belongs to a wealthy royal family. He is appalled by the devadasi tradition that is followed in the area, and marries Rajeshwari, a beautiful young woman who belongs to such a family. Although she becomes pregnant with Anand Verma's son, she compels him to marry a woman from a reputable family.
Unable to break his promise to Rajeshwari, Anand Verma marries Lakshmi, at the same time when Rajeshwari gives birth to Anand Verma's son, Ramu. When the newlyweds, Anand Verma and Lakshmi go to visit Rajeshwari, she hands over responsibility for the newborn son to them and commits suicide, much to their shock and grief.
Forced by circumstance, Lakshmi is unable to bring up Ramu as her own, but after she explains all her reasons to him, he accepts her as his mother. He promises that he would take charge of the estate's operations and ensure that his younger brother, Kalyan is taught a lesson. What strategy will Ramu employ to restore happiness and harmony in the family? Will he succeed in his mission?
