Trivia:
The film was dubbed in Hindi in 1998 as "Kanoon Ka Khiladi". The film received predominantly negative reviews.

Despite having been released along with Kamal's big-budget release "Thevar Magan", "Pandiyan" succeeded in becoming a commercial success at the Box Office.

This is one of the few Rajini films which did not have any tracks sung by SP Balasubramaniam.

This turned out to be Rajinikanth's last film with SP Muthuraman.

Rajinikanth primarily made this low-budget movie to help SP Muthuraman. Muthuraman who turned producer for this film, under his production banner 'Visalam Productions' named after his mother. However, his family situation was so tumultuous that Rajinikanth himself took care of production duties of the film. Unfortunately, all of Rajinikanth's good wishes and help went in vain as tragedy struck before release, and Muthuraman's wife passed away.

This movie was another in a continuous string of successes for actor Rajinikanth. His suave and stylish portrayal in the opening song of the movie became a big hit among fans, becoming a highlight in the movie.

This action-packed movie became a blockbuster and successfully completed a 105 day run in theatres.

After its resounding success the movie was dubbed in Hindi in 1998 as "Kanoon Ka Khiladi".

The film was a remake of the Kannada film "Bombay Dada" starring Tiger Prabhakar, Vani Vishwanath, Vajramuni and Lakshmi. Prabhakar, the director and hero of the Kannada film, portrayed the negative role in the Tamil version.
