This silent movie depicts the destructiveness of ego and arrogance through the story of Bhasmasur who, after receiving a boon that anybody whose head he keeps his hand on will be burnt to dust tries to kill Lord Shiva himself, prompting Lord Vishnu to take the form of a beautiful woman, Mohini, to bamboozle him into self-destruction.

Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke was an Indian producer-director-screenwriter, known as the father of Indian cinema. This was his second movie, in which he created a storm by having real women act in it for the first time ever in Indian cinema.
