Mahanagaram (1992)

Embedded with fierce action and taut thrill, this fast-paced crime drama traces the twists and turns in the life of Viswanathan, better known as Chanthakkadu Viswan, who is seemingly a criminal genius, using clever tactics to smuggle illegal goods into India. However, when the smugglers come to him with a proposal to get poisonous, mind altering drugs into India for export, he refuses to cooperate with them on moral grounds. Automatically, they begin to view him as a threat to their business and try to dispose of him. When the smugglers assault him on his way back to Kerala from Karnataka, a police officer and his family come to his assistance and he becomes friendly with them. The police officer, Chandra Das is later given the profile of a notorious criminal, told that he is a patricidal maniac and given the assignment of nabbing him. This criminal is none other than Chanthakkadu Viswan, but, having met and interacted with him Chandra Das is unable to fully believe that he could be such a terrible person. Amidst increasing violent and terrorist activities in the State, Chandra Das begins his investigation into Chanthakkadu Viswan's history and career in crime. The complex web of corrupt politicians, criminal businessmen and a powerful network between the underworld and corrupt government officials that Chandra Das unearths, may reveal some shocking truths within his own family. Is Chanthakkadu Viswan truly nothing more than a heartless criminal and a killer? How will Chandra Das' investigation unfold?
