'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is a trendsetting movie that revolves around three key characters; Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), Anjali (Kajol), and Tina (Rani Mukherjee), who are students at St. Xavier's College.
Anjali is a sports-loving tomboy, who is best friends with Rahul. Being so close to each other, Rahul and Anjali would have probably fallen in love, in due course, and Anjali, does in fact fall in love with Rahul, but he only views as a friend and companion.
In the meanwhile, a young, feminine and very attractive new student, Tina (Rani Mukerjee) the Principal's daughter, joins the school, and enchants Rahul completely. Rahul and Tina's love becomes a fairy tale that ends in marriage, but consequently, Anjali is heartbroken and leaves their lives for good.
This tale is actually narrated in retrospect to Little Anjali (Sana Saeed), Rahul and Tina's eight year old, daughter through the letters her mother has left for her when she died due to complications at child birth. Tina tells her daughter to fulfill her dream to reunite her father and Anjali – best friends who would have eventually fallen in love and who have not seen each other for the past nine years. Will Little Anjali succeed in fulfilling her mother's last wish and reunite Rahul and Anjali?

Continuity Before "koi mil gaya" song, Rahul lifts Tina's arm and holds her arm over her jacket. In the continuous shot from the another angle, he is holding her bare arm.
Continuity In one scene where Anjali and Rahul are talking at school, Anjali is leaning on a phone booth. When she moves away, the receiver falls, In the next shot, it's in its place again.
Continuity While dancing at the summer camp, Anjali is wearing a ring with AUM in her right hand's finger, however when she moves her hand on Rahul's face, she is wearing ring with a diamond. Then afterward, again the AUM ring appears.

Continuity Before the Koi Mil Gaya song, the stage is filled with rotten tomatoes but when Tina reaches it, it's clean.
During a bike riding sequence in one song, Kajol lost control of the bike and cut her knee quite badly. You can just see her losing control before the camera cuts out the shot. Kajol hit the ground hard and actually lost consciousness for several minutes.

Director Karan Johar never considered his good friend Rani Mukerji for the role of Tina. In fact, Rani read the script herself and went up to Karan saying, "I'm the only one able to do this role."
The scene at the end of "Ladki Badi Anjaani Hai" where Kajol's sari flies in the air and Shah Rukh Khan realizes her love for her, was not originally in the script. Farah Khan added it, believing it added a filmy touch to the scene.
The name for the character Tina came from Twinkle Khanna who has the same nickname.
It is the only bollywood movie, which has won all the awards for major acting categories.
