American actor Jonathan Kimble Simmons aka JK Simmons, is known for playing Dr. Emil Skoda on the NBC series Law & Order and his performance in Whiplash for which he has received widespread critical acclaim and earned him more than thirty accolades, including the Academy Award, the Golden Globe Award, and the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. After graduating from the University of Montana in 1978 with a music degree he also became a part of the music-oriented fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He initially forayed into Broadway and Television, and is known for his characters in Law & Order, Arrested Development and has also voiced the character of Barber in the surreal Nickelodeon kid's show The Adventures of Pete & Pete in 1995. Simmons was initially offered the leading role in the upcoming film Kong: Skull Island, though he had exited the project and rejoined. He is also famous for his performances in the Academy award winning movie 'La La Land' and has voiced characters for several blockbuster animated films like Kung Fu Panda and Zootopia. He was also recognized for his performance in the critically acclaimed film 'Juno' for essaying the role of Ellen Page's father. Simmons is married to Michelle Schumacher and has two children with her. An avid fan of the Detroit Tiger, Simmons is also a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and has an interest in ornithology.
