He is in love with one of his colleagues, but she takes advantage of him and hurts him deeply. When he confronts her, she understands her mistake and begins to reciprocate his love for her.
Shankar's father passed away at a young age and the burden of caring for the family went to his elder sister, Malathi. She is helped by Ramanathan, a sincere and caring man. Ramanathan's sister, Sharada is a beautiful young woman.
Ramanathan falls in love with Malathi and wishes to marry her. Malathi explains to him that she is responsible for her ageing mother and two younger brothers. Although she likes Ramanathan, she does not want to get married so that she can earn enough money and care for her younger brothers' education.
Ramanathan accepts that he would allow Malathi to take care of her family even if she were to marry him and so they eventually tie the knot. However, later on Ramanathan finds fault with Malathi and blames her for remaining true to her responsibility to her brothers. He even separates from her.
Malathi is left with no choice but to sacrifice her marital relationship for her younger brothers and her family's well-being. How will her future unfold? Will her brothers appreciate her sacrifice? Can Shankar and his girlfriend find a way to bring Malathi and Ramanathan back together?
