There is a bitter rivalry between two teams of a local cricket league, the Royapuram Rockers (the current champions) and the Sharks (the underdogs, desperately seeking victory). Raghu, a member of the Royapuram Rockers is forced to move with his parents to Visalakshi Thottam, Chennai 600 028, the residential area of the Sharks team that he considers his sworn enemies. Raghu although faithful to his old team, is ignored by his teammates because of the distance. Angered at being replaced by a new member in the team in one of the matches, Raghu estranges himself from cricket and the Rockers. Eventually, Raghu develops friendship and affinity with the members of the Sharks team and joins them, to battle against his old team in a major tournament. Will the team manage to remain united, defeat their arch rivals and be crowned as the new champions? 'Chennai 600028' is a coming of age sports comedy that delves into the experiences that shapes young adults into who they grow up to be.
