Reunites Emma Watson with screenwriter Stephen Chbosky whom she previously worked with on The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).

This is the second time Josh Gad has played a Disney sidekick. He previously voiced the snowman Olaf in Frozen (2013).

Emma Watson announced she will be playing the role of Belle on January 26th, 2015 on her Facebook account.

Alan Menken, who scored the original Beauty and the Beast (1991), return to score this live action adaptation, which will include new recordings of the original songs in addition to new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice.

Eddie Redmayne was first approached to play Gaston, but was soon sent out to Luke Evans.

Emma Watson began taking singing classes when she was cast in order to prepare for the role of Belle.

Unlike previous re-adaptations like Alice in Wonderland (2010), Maleficent (2014), and Cinderella (2015), which are only inspired to the classics Alice in Wonderland (1951), Sleeping Beauty (1959), and Cinderella (1950), this will be a much more faithful remake of the original 1991 animated movie, with all the musical numbers proposed again. Plus, it will finally introduce some (or all) of the songs from the 1994 Broadway musical, like "Home", "If I Can't Love Her", and "A Change in Me".

Emma Watson released to fans that she would be playing the role of Belle before it even went on record. She told her fans that her "6 year old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting."

Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the Beast, but turned it down.

Shortly after it was announced that Emma Watson would be playing Belle, Susan Egan, who originated the role on Broadway, wrote a blog in which she expressed her enthusiasm and excitement for the casting decision and stated that Watson would be "perfect" in the role.

Emma Watson was previously set to star in another "Beauty and the Beast" film that was set up at Warner Bros. Pictures with Guillermo del Toro attached to direct.

Emma Watson (Belle), Luke Evans (Gaston), and Emma Thompson (Mrs. Potts) share the same birth date - 15th April: Emma Watson born in 1990, Luke Evans in 1979, and Emma Thompson born in 1959.
